April 2009

Question: Where can you find Hokusai, Hiroshige, James Ravilious, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Dennis the Menace and Isabella Whitworth all in the same place?

Answer: In the January - June 2009 programme leaflet produced by Bideford's Burton Museum and Art Gallery. I am in illustrious company. The exhibition A Floating World in Print is stunning and finishes on the April 13th. I studied these master-printmakers when a student of Graphic Design but have rarely seen such fine examples and in such quantity. This is a world class show. I set up a craft showcase at The Burton Museum on Saturday and am showing a selection of work but also a display of materials, tools and my sketchbooks. I am running workshops there during this month.

I have been continuing with my research work, which is why I have posted less here than in the past. However I am now back into the studio for while and looking forward to receiving Rushyan Yen as guest and student next week. Rushyan's journey around the world in search of those working in wax is documented here.

On the right is a selection of the brushes I am using right now. The two outside brushes are the only ones not made specifically for wax and the other four are Japanese.
